Now or Never
– It is time for every Oromoo to act now.
By Lammii Boonsaa
In our liberation struggle aka qabsoo
bilisummaa Oromoo (QBO), we have heard many discussions and debates,
we have read many articles, we have seen many facts, we have had many
unproductive years behind us since 1992. Recently, we heard bad news
about what is going on in the camp of Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) moraa
Adda Bilisummaa Oromoo (ABO). Where are we moving ahead? What then next?
Whenever an article appears on the internet,
no matter whether the opinion of the author is productive or not, we
are in a hurry to put our comments or opinions be it pro or contra to
the opinion of the writer. If we do not like one’s opinion, we are
so fast to criticise that opinion and even insult each other. Such acting
culture can not bring us and our struggle forwards. If I say it is even
destructive, I do not think that I am exaggerating. When and/or if we
oppose one’s opinion, we need to express our opinion wisely and try
to convince someone with our clear argument and explain our thoughts
in detail. We need to be patient and cool-headed instead of being emotional.
Calmness is very important in this case.
The purpose of my short article today
is to bring my idea to discussion or debate. Firstly, I would suggest
such similar initiative like the one gadaa.com has been
doing since the beginning of this year with the question .… where
do you think Oromia will be 10 years from now? Have your say! In
this new initiative I am suggesting, questions, answers to the raised
questions and ideas as well as proposals can be colleted and used for
further discussions. The aim of such discussions forum shall initially
be to identify core problems, weaknesses and constraints in our liberation
struggle QBO. Once we gathered such information we can start to discuss
how to tackle such problems and try to find possible or/and alternative
solutions. This way can help or give input to our liberation organisations
and leadership to find common route (karaa) to reach our end goal (end
kaayyoo). Let’s be part of the solutions instead of being part of
problems.
To start and carry on such discussion,
I would like to suggest different phases to be considered. Although
there will be further phases which I will bring to discussion in my
next article, for now, let’s first start with three phases:
Phase 1: Feasibility consideration
and review of QBO
Phase 2: Constraints and problems
consideration in relation to QBO
In order to start and further consider
the different phases given here, we need to collect as many questions
and/or ideas as possible to sort these information under possible phase.
We can then even consider different stages within each phase where necessary.
Questions which might be raised can for
example be, including but not limited to, like:
- What are the constraints that
had and have impact on our liberation struggle?
- Why have we failed to reach
our end goal?
- What are the problems within
the camp of OLF?
- What are the real reasons
for division?
- What are the weakness and
strength of our leaders?
- Is it possible to unite the
three factions of OLF? If yes how? If no what do you think could be
done or what do you think about alternative solution to strengthen this
vanguard organisation?
- How can we build a true unity
(tokkummaa dhugaa) of Oromoo liberation organisations?
- What is the role of Oromoo
communities in diaspora to accelerate QBO?
- How can we mobilise our resources
to reach our goal?
- What is the role of Oromoo
elites in our liberation struggle?
As far as options concerned, we have
so far the following options which resulted from various previous discussions:
Option 1: Oromian autonomy (true
federation) within Ethiopian context
Option 2: Independence of Oromia
without any future union
Option 3: Independence of Oromia
with future union of independent nations
Here we can add another options if applicable
and/or combine the options. When we reach at phase 3, we will make comparative
assessment of each options; list as many advantages and disadvantages
of each option as possible. Then we can identify a preferred option
based on the respective advantages and disadvantages of the various
options.
- no insult
- be constructive
- convince others with clear
argument(s)
So ilmaan Oromoo, as I said in the title
of this article, now it is time to act. The time has come where we can
use our education, knowledge, ability and talent to contribute to our
liberation struggle so that we can reach our end goal together. I particularly
call on Oromoo intellectuals to participate in this important discussion
to finally be able to get a solution for our liberation struggle QBO.
Now or Never!!! Galatoomaa.
