Appeal of Oromia Liberation Front (OLF) to Borana and Guji Oromo communities.
The central committee of Oromia liberation Front (OLF) expresses its utmost sadness for the violence that is taking place between two Oromo communities- the Borana and Guji, which share the painful marginalization of colonial oppression under the minority regime in Ethiopia at war today. It would have been beneficiary if both would have opted to resolve differences through traditional mechanisms than means of weapon of violence. These conflicts that are going on are very mind-numbing and disastrous to national Wellbeing of the entire Oromo nation weakening unity. It is heart breaking to the nation in irreparable manner living with us a dark page of history. We are very much angered by OPDO failure which claims that it represents Oromo people to resolve the problem between the two communities as early on than letting differences grow to the level of blood shade. The entire outcome is making Oromo people gun fodder for colonialist wellbeing.
The murky work of enemy agents has allowed the colonizers wash their hands with the blood of our brothers. It is very frustrating that these two communities failed to address their common challenges by joining force but acted in a manner that is not honorable. It was not necessary to change name of a place as far as it carry an Oromo name. However, change of name is necessary at some points when it is enemy given name such as kibremengist and Hageremariam. The Name of Nagelle Borana does not match the criteria like the above two towns. Therefore, we have taken political position and that would be element of our future administrative policy: that the name to remain Nagelle Borana as it has been for the last over hundreds of years even before enemy occupied Oromia and it is as old as our nation itself and shading blood on something that is irrelevant to affect Oromo interest and Oromummaa is erroneous by its nature.
Secondly, we call up on elders of neighboring Oromo Zones like Bale, Arsi and Central Oromia have full right and responsibility to interfere and stop the fighting to create peace and reconciliation between two bother communities. To our judgment such change has no significant contribution to Oromo cause rather breeds differences and conflicts. We strictly advise any place that bears Oromo name remain unchanged at all times as it has been in the past. The only way out of such irresponsible mistake that is happening between Guji and Borana can only be remedied by honoring the existing names of the past because of psychological impact and most ritual sites of Borana Gada are around the town of Nagelle Borana. The intended change fundamentally rocks the very foundation of the entire Oromo Gada institutions which Guji Oromo is also practicing. Therefore, to protect the Oromo institution and unity we affirm that the change is not necessary and very far from Oromo reality to harbor.
Third, the conflict is caused by shallow minded enemy agents who like to maintain their service to the colonizers. Rural Guji or Borana peasants who are at war with each other now are not the planners of the change or the conflict but they are dragged into conflict by those who desire to execute enemy agenda. We are fully aware that it is the work of agents and enemy murky work to dismantle Oromo unity and rule over divided nation. We know the masterminds of the problem and the executers working for the enemy. Therefore, the best option for both communities is to refrain from conflict which does not serve the best interest of our nation.
To bring this conflict to an end the elders of both communities must have the capacity to sit together and sort out the bitterness that is created by the agents of EPRDF. Secondly. The wise men of Oromia must involve anchoring peace on strong foundation between the two communities.
Lastly, we appeal to elites of Borana and Guji in Diaspora and at home to think in terms of national interest than petty local gains or losses. Without unity freedom is not achievable. By separating Guji from Borana there is nothing to be achieved but much to be lost. The main goal to cause conflict is to close out side access of Oromo struggle by creating differences within communities along the border. Therefore, the conflict is part of EPRDF war declared against entire nation. We strictly assert that those who are demanding the change are not serving the interest of our nation but that of the colonizers. Therefore we will not allow any thing that can compromise our national interests and the destiny of our nation and advise both communities to use maximum restraints and work for peace.
