CBC News covered the #OromoProtests Solidarity Rally held on June 17, 2014, in Ottawa, Canada. The Solidarity Rally called for justice for the Oromo students and civilians killed by the TPLF Ethiopian regime, and also appealed to Canadian lawmakers to help stop the killing of Oromos by the TPLF Ethiopian regime.
#OromoProtests is a student-led movement to stop the ‘Addis Ababa Master Plan’ of annexation of land from the State of Oromia and eviction of Oromo farmers around the capital Finfinne (Addis Ababa). In addition, #OromoProtests fights to restore Afan Oromo as an official language as well as other interests of the State of Oromiyaa in Finfinne as per the Ethiopian Constitution; the Afan Oromo language was, for instance, banned from official uses at the turn of the 20th-century when Finfinne, itself an Oromo homeland, was annexed from Oromiyaa by the Abyssinian Kingdom of Shoa.
