We the Oromo Community of Chicago, as planned and announced on the day of the protest rally will hold a fund raising event..

Oromos are organizing rallies in the thousands globally. With this we raised a lot of awareness about the injustices against the Oromo people and Oromo students. However, because of our relative inability to put together a body that formulates strategies and fund raise from the Oromo Diaspora we probably lost a golden opportunity to raise hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to support the ‪#‎OromoProtests‬. I believe such opportunity still exists but we need strong organizations and good will from its leaders, old and young, to act in unison to realize this objective. We need to break the backbone of the enemy which imposed its will on our people. That is possible only if we are ready to face the enemy on our own soil, or support those who are ready at home and sacrifice everything the struggle requires to win the fight against tyranny. Conducting rallies in western countries is necessary, but it is not sufficient to dismantle the system of oppression and end state sponsored terrorism.
I am here not only to provide the necessary leadership, be one of those who organizes, but also be one of those who contributes money as much as I can possibly contribute. I have been sending money back home to help my own families and help university students but this time the struggle requires more than supporting individuals. I could send money to individuals but I want to do something better than that. We can’t win this struggle by acting individually or sending money back home to to help one of our own who might be affected. There are thousands who are able to help, but have No one they know affected by this crises. But, they too will help if we are organized and know who to motivate them to give. An injustice done against one Oromo, or anybody for that matter, is an injustice against all of us.
The best way for us to motivate Oromo Diaspora to give for this just struggle is to show them that we are organized and lead by example. We have urgent task that needs to be accomplished soon. On Tuesday, we the Oromo Community of Chicago, as planned and announced on the day of the protest rally will hold a fund raising event, community picnic and candle vigil for the precious brave souls who sacrificed their valued lives defending the Oromo cause. We need to immortalize them and fund raise in the tens of thousands to finance the struggle back home. This event we will take place at Foster Beach starting at 4:00 PM Tuesday May 13, 2014. The event will continue until 8:30 PM. I am asking the Oromo to give generously during the coming days and weeks and continue to do so until victory is achieved. We do this for we are sure that we are on the right side of history. We shall win! United we win, divided we fail! Egereen Keenna!
Dear all:
Let me give you some tips for the fund raising strategy. It is good if we plan to start donations starting with 200 dollars per adult person and twenty dollars for kids. I need the Oromo kids to have a feel that they too have contributed their part by asking their families to give them some money. People can contribute as much as they can. There is no lower limit or upper limit to how much we can donate to help the victims of the tyranny and the families of the massacre in Ambo, Bale Robe and Haromaya and else where. We need to help students who are in hospitals getting medical care. There is a feeling that these victims may not get optimal care in government hospitals and often times these kids or their families may not have enough money to cover the very high cost of caring for wounded victims who often require medical care for months. It is our national duty to show our solidarity with Oromo people as they wage the just struggle to free our people the yoke of oppression. If the Oromo University students are willing to sacrifice their valuable lives, we the people in a free world should be able to donate as much money as we can to end the vicious heinous crimes against the Oromo masses. This is our fund raising strategy in Chicago and I hope Oromos in other places will also use similar fund raising strategies. I believe we can fund raise over two Million Dollars from North America alone in one week time if we work to achieve this goal. I say “YES, WE CAN!”
Thank you for standing up in solidarity with the Oromo people.
United we shall win!
