Falls Church, Virginia (4/24/2023) – On April 23, 2023, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that peace talks between the Ethiopian government and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) would begin on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Tanzania. The OLA released a statement confirming that such negotiations would begin and that the Ethiopian government had agreed to the terms they had requested for such negotiations, including, “an independent third party mediator and a commitment to maintain transparency throughout the process.” As of this time, neither the Ethiopian government nor the OLA has publicly disclosed the identities of the mediators or expanded on the modalities of these discussions.
