St. Cloud State University’s Oromo Student Organization will be hosting Oromo Night this Saturday night. This year’s theme is “Viva Oromoia”.
The Oromo are an ethnic group inhabiting Ethiopia, northern Kenya and pars of Somalia. Viva Oromoia showcases eight traditional dances, poetry, skits and a fashion show along with a dinner with traditional Oromo dishes.
The student organization is also teaming with the Organization For the Prevention of Aids in Africa to host the OPAA jam in the Quarry in the Atwood Memorial Center that will raise money for AIDS prevention in Africa.
Viva Oromoia begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Atwood followed by the OPAA Jam at 10 p.m. Admission for students is 5 dollars and 7 dollars for the general public. Kids 12 and under are offered free admission.
