Syrian state television report that 13 people were killed and 70 injured in an explosion in central Damascus.
According to the opposition Syrian Observatory Human Rights (SOHR) killed nine civilians and three policemen in an explosion in Damascus on Tuesday, and the death toll is feared to rise. It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion.
The loyalist TV channel Al-Ikhbariya spoke of 13 dead and 70 wounded. TV channel showed firefighters who ran through the thick smoke at explosion site near a building belonging to the Ministry of Interior in Marja district, writes Reuters. Two bodies could be placed on the ground.
Last Monday was subjected Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi for an assassination attempt when a car bomb exploded in central Damascus. The Prime Minister made it unscathed, but six people died in the attack, according to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory.
After the explosion on Tuesday will also fires have occurred, that have blown out windows of cars nearby. According to the BBC, it should also have been heard gunfire in the area shortly afterwards.
The UN estimates that more than 70,000 people have been killed in Syria since the fighting began in March 2011. According SOHR were fighting in March this year the deadliest yet, with 6,000 deaths, writes the BBC.
